The Shadow Of The Ice Kingdom --Part 13: Mana Harvesting --
Brett stands before Malthus. Malthus commands, "Brett, I want you to continue absorbing the mana out of the worthless beings. You gained a lot of mana from the plants and animals surrounding the villages and forests. I want you to start harvesting your own peasants' mana too. I want you to gain enough mana to crush Wallace and Sam! I can't grant a straight increase of mana into you, it's not within my abilities, that's Arkana's jurisdiction, but since I told you that all life forms have mana inside of them. You have gathered up enough to stay on even ground as the other champions. I can gradually increase the weakling's Mana the same way I granted you a little bit of my own to take over the kingdom; although, unlike you, it may kill them. Brett, if need be absorb the mana out of the peasants before they explode. You must succeed, at all costs!" Malthus teleports Brett back to the mortal realm.
Brett stands in the middle of a prison cell, drenched in blood, covered with Loaman bodily organs. He grabs a piece of an intestine off his shoulder, throwing the intestine to the ground, "Well, I am not gathering the mana fast enough. I seem to not know what the difference is between how I can easily get it from the animals and plants easier than trying to gather the mana out of the peasants?" Chasono appears before him, "Focus on the center of the person's sternum. Place both hands over the sternum and concentrate while increasing the flow of Mana out of the individual. It has to be a gradual increase and not a rushed or slow process. Malthus has high hopes for you. If this doesn't work, you can just have some of your scientific researchers develop a device that will extract the mana in a more efficient way?" Brett continues to practice his absorption skills as more guards forced twenty peasants into the dungeon prison cells across from the one he resides in. The peasants stare at Brett as he stands still with the remains of his victims strewn about his prison cell, the horror made the peasants tremble, "We are going to be slaughtered for the god Malthus. This must be a ceremony for how Brett maintains his magical powers." They witness several peasants explode in front of their own eyes. Brett steps into the cell across from his own. They stand still, stiff as a board, eyes closed and heart racing. Brett walks up to the first one, places his hands on top of one another as he concentrates on extracting their mana. Time goes by as he completes the last absorption, "I did it! I have fucking finally extracted the Mana from them without losing anyone, besides my first failures. I cured the infected so they won't explode anymore! I did, I stopped a wave of innocents from dying by King Sam's curse he placed upon my people. I'm sorry for having to do this to you all and for you to witness the horror down here. You all are cured. But, I don't know if the curse is going to be fully lifted until I am able to kill Sam Belthor, you might become cursed by his spell he placed on my villages. If you witness people on the streets exploding randomly, that's due to the curse. I was trying to move quickly on figuring out a way to absorb the mana out of those who I have been directed might have been infected by the curse. You can go freely now. It's ok to spread what you witnessed here across the villages. Again, I am sorry for all of this." Brett's guards release the prisoners as he takes a bath under an indoor waterfall. The peasants spread the news, the villagers start to arrive at the throne room, begging for their illness and curse to be extracted from them. Chasono appears next to Brett, "Congratulations on learning how to control Mana absorption. Now you can further extract with less casualties. I need you to have your scientific researchers develop technology utilizing Mana absorption, and then create weapons that can manifest the mana." Brett continues to extract the mana as Chasono fades away from the mortal realm.
